Continue your time wasting at work thirst for knowledge about the benefits of napping from Dr. Sara Mednick, a doctor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego. Her blog, Take a Nap has answers to our questions about sleep, how it benefits us, and the effects not doing it have on our bodies.

Miriam asks: What about having a lot of trouble waking up from an afternoon nap, even after a poor night’s sleep? I often find myself feeling extra groggy and dim, the opposite of what I hope for!

Miriam’s problem it turns out is sleep inertia.

Miriam feels “dim” upon waking from a nap because she is vulnerable to sleep inertia. That foggy-headed feeling is her brain’s way of pushing Miriam to reconsider her napping habits. Its likely that Miriam needs to nap for shorter duration so that she avoids slipping into deep slow wave sleep. My husband has the same tendency; he gets much more benefit from 10-15 minutes of rest, than 30 to 60.

There are insightful responses to many questions posed by readers and the Dr. Mednick is open to answering good questions as they come in. It’s important to stay sharp through napping and improving your sleeping skills is essential for good rest and a healthy heart.

A murderer is suing the prison he is in for losing weight.

Broderick Lloyd Laswell, who is awaiting trial for murder, dropped to 22 stone (140kg) after eight months inside the Arkansas prison.

He claims his vision has gone blurry while trying to exercise.

The meals at the prison average 3,000 calories (about 1,000 over the daily recommended value). Someone should tell the guy that getting fat is not your fault.

A bit long, but worth the watch, some good practical advice in there.

Simply brilliant.

It turns out that Prozac isn’t very good at warding off your depression or anorexia if you’ve got that. The drug though may help children who are visually impaired.

A team of Finnish and Italian researchers announced that the drug, when administered to rats with impaired vision, played a role in correcting their eyesight. Even better, they think it could have the same effect on the two to three percent of humans who have amblyopia, or lazy eye, the most common cause of visual impairment among children.

Prozac doesn’t help adults with the same conditions however, or depression, anorexia, or craziness - so why does anyone take it?

A group of scientists got together and decided to measure intra-vaginal ejaculatory latency (the time after you “stick it in”) and find out duration satisfied participants (aka. fuckers) most. Women were asked afterwards what they considered “too short”, “adequate”, and “desirable”.

When it comes to time and vaginal penetration and ejaculation, the average for “too short” was rated as 1 to 2 minutes. “Adequate” was 3 to 7 minutes. “Desirable” was 7 to 13 minutes. And “too long” was 10 minutes to 30 minutes. What we concluded is that intercourse that lasts from about 3 to 13 minutes is considered the norm.

Foreplay wasn’t measured since the scientists couldn’t figure out how to quite define it. Both men and women tended to respond the same way and reported 33-37 minutes of total sex to be ideal. So fuck off, just not more than 13 minutes please.

In my attempt to fix some coding errors over here I accidentally destroyed much of the database filled with Be Lazier…and since we’re lazy here (hence the blog name) I hadn’t run a backup in a while. I learned a great lesson today - take backups, but automatically.

Cause that way you won’t have to do shit when shit gets fucked up. Now I’m drained, back with new material on Friday.
